San Simeon - Hearst Castle Tour. The onetime home of William Randolph Hearst, now administered by the California Department of Parks and Recreation, has regularly scheduled wheelchair tours that last about one and three quarters hours, covering the same area as the regular Tour I. The tour includes the gardens, the outdoor Neptune Pool, the indoor Roman Pool and the castle's first floor. That floor contains the assembly room, the dining hall, the morning room, the billiards room and the movie theater. In the theater, guests see six minutes of film taken while Hearst was entertaining guests. Reservations, which should be made at least 10 days in advance, may be made by calling (805)927-4621. Wheelchairs and pushers are not provided Since the route includes some steep inclines, it is recommended that pushers be "able-bodied and strong."
