Founded: 1983. Individuals working to promote non-discriminating mainline public transit systems that are accessible to people who use wheelchairs for mobility. Seeks to heighten the awareness of transit officials across the country regarding the right of the disabled to equal access on all buses. Urges the American Public Transit Association to support total accessibility of all public transit systems and federal reinstatement of the 504 regulation requiring this by law; asks for notification by APTA of bus manufacturers stating that its members will purchase only buses accessible to wheelchairs.

C International Correspondence - You can make new friends through an exchange of letters. Has proposed the formation of an international network to provide attendant services for its members. The system, introduced at the Annual Conference and General Assembly of Mobility International, would reduce the cost of bringing a personal attendant on foreign trips. Members would complete an "attendant needs checklist" and send it to the international MI office in the appropriate country. The office would locate the attendant(s) and notify the client of the anticipated costs. It will cover travel to the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, France and Italy.
C Workshops for Exchange Organizations - You can learn how your organization can recruit and accommodate participants with disabilities.
C Workshops For Organizations Working with Disabled Persons - You can educate your staff, volunteers, and clientele about the many options available to persons with disabilities who want to travel or live overseas.
Publishes Over the Rainbow, quarterly newsletter. Covers information about international exchange and travel opportunities. Also publishes A Guide to International Educational Exchange, Community Service, and Travel for Persons with Disabilities, A Manual for Integrating Persons with Disabilities into International Educational Exchange Programs.

"Members of the Traveler's Information Exchange, established in 1891 as the Women's Rest Tour Association, share their travel experiences a practical advice through an annual magazine, newsletters, and foreign and American lodging lists. TIE also offers a Bed and Breakfast exchange for its members. Provides advisory, historical and how-to information. "The TIE library contains a variety of travel resources, including vintage Baedeker, Cook, Muirhead and Hare guidebooks plus 91 years of TIE history. As the organization was originally founded to provide practical information for women travelers, TIE can furnish background on notable women members over the years including Alice Brown and Maria Reed (the founders) and Julia Ward (TIE's first president).
