Travel by Cruise Ship for the Disabled
Prospective travelers should contact passenger lines about any requirements for medical certification, accessibility of shipboard facilities, and wheelchair regulations in various ports. The Cunard Line's Queen Elizabeth II is the most accessible passenger ship. The Queen Elizabeth II has ten staterooms especially designed for disabled passengers. It also has special ramps and elevators. Contact the Cunard Lines, 555 Fifth Avenue, New York, New York 10017, (212) 880-7500. Several other lines have ships which are partly accessible. These include Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland America Cruises, Home Lines, Norwegian American Cruises, Norwegian Caribbean Lines, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, and Bahamas Cruise Line. On many cruise ships, disabled travelers receive special consideration, including cabin assignments near elevators, assistance in boarding and disembarking, special meals, etc. Also, every cruise ship has a doctor to provide any medical help that's needed.
